Retrofit for BWTS
BWTS with Requirement
The vessels engaged in international navigation with ballast tanks more than 50m in length or more than 8㎥ in capacity cannot discharge ballast water without water treatment process.
Installation Requirement
- IMO Rule
- This requirement has already been applied to new shipbuilding since 8 September 2017. In case of existing vessels, the BWTS installation requirement should be implemented in compliance with IOPP renewal survey referring to below implementation schedule.
- USCG Rule
- The Convention entered into force from 1 January 2016 for both new-building and existing vessels. The USCG’s final rule for a ballast water discharge standard is essentially the same as that adopted by the IMO in 2004. The existing vessels sailing in U.S. waters will be required to install BWTS with Type Approval Certificate issued by USCG.
Implementation Schedule
- 1.Ship contructed on or after 8 september 2017 shall comply with D-2 standard as of ships delivery (Constructed = Keel Laid).
- 2.A case where previous IOPP renewal survey had been completed between 8 september 2014 and 7 september 2017, the ships shall comply with D-2 standard by the first IOPP renewal survey after entry into force of the Convention.
- 3.A case where previous IOPP renewal survey had been completed between 8 september 2012 and 7 september 2014, the ships shall comply with D-2 standard by the second IOPP renewal survey after entry into force of the Convention.
